Through Eyes of Faith

Philippians 1:12-17 (12)

12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

Eight year old Frank was excited about the fishing trip with his Dad on Saturday.  Friday night they got their fishing gear all ready.  Mom prepared a lunch for them to take the next morning.  That night, Frank was so excited he could hardly sleep.

The next morning a clap of loud thunder shook him awake.  He rushed to the window and in dismay saw that it was pouring down rain.  He was instantly upset.  Throughout the morning he grumbled.  Nothing went right.  He whined repeatedly, “Why did it have to rain today?”

Dad tried to explain that rain was good.  The farmers need rain.  None of this satisfied Frank.  Why didn’t it rain instead on Monday when he was in school?

Around noon the rain finally came to an end.  The sun broke through the clouds.  Hoping to make the best of a disappointing day his Dad said, “Now we can go fishing.  At least we have half of the day left.”  That afternoon, much to their delight, they caught more fish than before.

As they sat down to eat a delicious fish supper, Frank’s Dad ask him to pray.  Bowing his head, Eight year old Frank said, “Dear Jesus, if I sounded grumpy this morning, it was because I couldn’t see far enough ahead.”

Often we can’t see God’s will, His plan and His blessing for us because of the storm clouds in our lives.  In those times we need to look to God and ask Him to help us see life through the eyes of faith.
