The Half has not be Told

Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

After travelling throughout Asia for 24 years, Marco Polo the merchant, explorer and writer returned to his home in Venice. His close friends who heard him describe the things he had seen thought he had gone mad. The mysterious culture and inner workings of the Eastern world seemed like figments of his imagination.  The wealth and great size of the Mongol Empire, China, Persia, India, Japan and Burma were more than the people could fathom.   Black stones that could be set on fire to provide heat, a piece of cloth that could not be set it on fire, and large animals almost 20 feet long that had jaws large enough to swallow a grown man were just a few of the stories he told.

Years later, lying on his death bed one of the few who actually believed him asked him to tell me all of those stories again. Refusing, Marco Polo simply said, it’s all true every bit of it. In fact I have not told you half of what I saw.

Having not seen, we can’t properly imagine what God has prepared for us.  Who can adequately describe a whole city coming down out of heaven?  The closest comparison John could give was that it was like a bride who had gone to great extravagance to enhance her beauty so she would please the one she loved so much.
