Genesis 19:12-16 (16)
Verse 16 – 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
Lot probably was influenced by his family to remain in the circumstances of his foolish choices. In spite of the fact, that he should not have chosen to live in close proximity to sin, endangering his and his family’s eternal destiny, he remained true to God. His salvation from the tragedy which befell the cities is attributed to the mercy of God, not to his own merit. He was saved from his circumstance by grace. God saw one righteous man in the city and performed a miracle through His angels to assure that His man escaped.
A lot of wonderful things happened in the Old Testament. What about now? Does God still perform miracles? John Paton thought so.
John Paton was a missionary in the New Hebrides Islands. One night hostile natives surrounded the mission station. They planned to burn the Paton’s home. John Paton and his wife prayed during throughout the night asking God to deliver them. In the morning they realized that it had become unusually quiet. Their attackers had left. Later, the chief of the tribe was converted to Christ. John Paton asked the chief why he had not down the house and killing them. The chief said he was afraid to attack because he had seen hundreds of big men in shining garments with drawn swords surrounding the mission.
