The Deliverance of Daniel

Daniel 6:18-23 (22)

Verse 22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions\’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

We marvel at stories of God shutting lions’ mouths, stopping the orbit of the earth around the sun for an hour, and sending an earthquake to bust His people out of prison.  Does God still deliver people today?  A missionary in Vietnam thinks so.

He felt God was calling him to minister in a part of town where he did not have permission to visit. As it began to get dark, he realized they were putting up a checkpoint and he didn’t know how he was going to get home.

Praying as he headed toward home, he was surprised when a motorbike stopped by him.  The rider asked if he needed a ride.  Somewhat afraid, the missionary agreed to ride with the stranger.  His uneasiness increased when the motorcyclist headed straight to the police station.  The motorcyclist got off the motorcycle and went into the police station.  The missionary prayed, “Lord, should I stay or should I go?” He felt like the Lord prompted him to wait for the motorcyclist to return.

The man emerged from the police station dressed in full uniform.  It was clear that he was a high ranking officer.  The missionary tried not to show his panic.  The policeman once again got on the motorcycle and then drove him to his home.

Later the missionary thought it would be in his best interest to show his gratitude by going to the police station to thank the officer.  When he described the officer, the police responded, ‘There’s never been anyone with that much rank at this police station.\’”  The missionary was convinced that God had sent an angel to assure that he arrived safely at his home that night.
