\”What If\”

John 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

“What if” thoughts ruin the peace that many people would otherwise enjoy. The Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. stated that a dense fog that covers a city block 100 ft. deep is composed of about one 16 oz. glass of water divided into 60,000 million drops. There is not much substance to fog, but it can cripple an entire city. Worry is the fog of “What if.” There is not much to it – but a few drops of fear, anxiety and imagination will fog your vision, and cripple your progress.

Dr. Charles Mayo said, “Worry affects the circulation, the heart, the glands and the whole nervous system. I have never known a man to die of overwork, but I have known a lot who died of worry. Ulcers are caused not so much by what you eat, but by what is eating you!” Psychologists call it GAD – Generalized Anxiety Disorder. “What if?”

Jesus told us not to have “What if” thoughts in Matthew 6 when he said not to worry about our life (vs 15), about our food and clothing (vs 31) or our future (vs. 34). How do you do that? By taking all your cares, your burdens, and your problems and leaving them at the throne of grace. Asking God to answer our prayers means giving our problems to Him and then leaving them with Him. This practice will cause all of our “What if” thoughts to vanish.
