Romans 15:6
6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Peanut’s Comic Strip often gives important life lessons. At times, it even gives good thought for theological consideration. One particular episode which every church body should consider seriously and practice religiously was when Linus was reclining on the floor watching television.
Lucy in her customary Napoleonic manner walked in and said, “Change the channel right now.”
Linus says, “I was here first, why should I change the channel?”
Lucy held up her hand and said, “Do you see these five fingers? Alone, they are nothing. But when I curl them into a fist, they become a weapon that is a terrible thing to behold.”
Without another word or a moment of hesitation Linus got up and changed the television channel. In the next scene Lucy is reclining on the floor watching television. Linus is over to the side.. With an perplexed look on his face he is looking at his hands. Then he says, “Why can’t you guys get together like that?”
Paul urges Christians to glorify God with unified mind and mouth. If we are not unified in mind the message will eventually begin to take various forms. How can the body of Christ present a consistent, compelling message if there is conflict between its members? When competition, carnality, and conflict seem to threaten harmony we need to remember the admonition given in Philippians 2:5. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” He is our Pattern and our Purpose.
