The Separated Life

2 Cor. 6:14?18 (17)

Their daughter was eating her breakfast.  Dad was reading the paper.  Mom was making more waffles.  The little girl stared into the depths of her glass of orange juice and said, “Daddy, Jesus is God, right?”  “Yes, dear.”  “And Daddy God lives in my heart, right?”  “That’s correct, honey.”  She was quiet for a moment before saying, “Daddy, how big is God?”  Her father responded, “Well, God is big.  Remember the song, ‘He’s got the whole world in his hands?’”  His daughter seemed to be content with his answer as she played with the waffle on her plate.  “Daddy, if God is that big, and He lives in my heart, wouldn’t He stick out?”

Sometimes it seems that children ask impossible questions.  Many times their questions are packed with profound insight.  It is true that God is big and He does live in our hearts.  It is also true that if this big God lives in our hearts He should stick out.   It should be noticeable to others around us that God controls our lives.  We talk differently, we act differently, we make different life choices, and our attitudes are different.  Why? Because are dead to this world and yet alive in Christ.  Jesus saving, transforming power has made us a new creature.  We are a child of the living God.
