More Fire

Acts 10:44-47 (44)

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Bernard Palissy the French Huguenot potter, hydraulics engineer and craftsman struggled for 16 years trying to find the secret for making fine china.  He wanted it to be beautiful, translucent and indestructible. He was a poor man and asked his neighbors to lend their assistance.   He said, “Give me only fire enough, and these colors will become part and parcel of the china.”  They had no confidence in his ability to accomplish the task and let it be known that they thought he was crazy.  Finally, in desperation he began to dismantle the furniture in his home.  He even tore up the floor.  Taking the materials from his destructive efforts he threw them into the oven because he desired “more fire.”

Unfortunately many born again Christians seem to feel that when God saved them they have reached the goal.  All they now have to do is sit in the pews and cheer while others reach the same goal.  And yet Jesus promised us so much more. It is imperative that we recognize the need to accomplish His mission and spread His message.  He gave us a promise that we would “receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon” us and that we would “be witnesses unto” Him “unto the uttermost part of the earth.”  It is time for born again Christians to call out to Him for the “fire” of His cleansing, sanctifying power.”
