Revelation 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Dorothy, the scarecrow, the lion, and the tin man were traveling to the Emerald city to see the great Wizard of Oz. Walking down a long, dimly lit hallway, they were startled by an explosion and billows of green smoke. A giant, menacing, bodiless head shouted, “I am Oz, the great and terrible!”
We stumble through the hallway of life. At times we see clearly ahead for a ways and then it seems as if we enter a labyrinth of confusion. At every turn we are faced with varying matters of concern. We are startled by the unexpected twists of our life. We dodge and weave making every attempt to escape the missiles of affliction and loss.
Like Dorothy, the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man there are times when the reverses in life cause us to tremble in fear. But then summoning all the courage we can muster we pull back the curtain only to see a shriveled up old man at a console, pulling levers and speaking into a microphone. (The Wizard of Oz, MGM, 1939)
When will we ever realize that the straw men of power that make the rules on this planet are mere mortals. They appear to be powerful but tomorrow they may be toppled from their throne of self importance.
Not so with the Lord, our God – He is the Holy One. He sits on the eternal throne. He is surrounded continually by myriads that bow the knee in reverence and worship crying out “Holy, Holy, Holy.” He alone is our confidence and strength.
