Colossians 4:16-18 (17)
17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
A group of foreign dignitaries are visiting Israel. At the end of the tour, they are taken to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They look at the tomb and read the following inscription:
ABRAHAM SCHWARTZ BORN 5694 DIED 5733 A GOOD MAN AND A GREAT FURRIER
The visitors are incredulous. They ask the guide, \”How can this be an unknown soldier if the grave has his name?\” Their host responds, \”Sure, as a soldier he was unknown, but as a furrier — he was the best!\” [source: http://www.haruth.com/].
We may not be famous or have a reputation for being an expert in a particular field of endeavor, but if we can be counted on to accomplish our mission, then we have displayed worth that others overlook. Daniel Lawrence Whitney, known professionally by his stage name Larry the Cable Guy, is a stand-up comedian who through redneck humor is probably best known for his catch phrase, “Git er Done.”
As Christians, we must continually remember that we have a message, a ministry, and a mission. We are sent out into the world to “Git er Done.” The epitaph on our tombstone may not list us as a hero or a great celebrity. To the world we may be unknown. What is more important is that we are known for accomplishing our task for the Lord.
