Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord‘s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
God’s promises are always specific but they are often universal as well. And example of this is found in the book of Haggai where God makes some specific promises to the people of Israel which the people of God today can claim because they are later verified for universal application.
In Haggai 2:4 God promises to always be with his people. His presence is verified for universal application in Hebrews 13:5 where God says, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Haggai 2:5b tells us “. . . so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.” God’s protection is verified in Psalm 34:7 where we are told that “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.”
God tells His people in Haggai 2:6 that they can rely on the strength of His power. Jesus reminded the church in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
The Israelites were told God would provide for them in Haggai 2:7-8. Jesus told us we could count on God’s provision in Matthew 6:25-34 when He said, “Take no thought for your life.”
God also promises His potential in Haggai 2:9. In Matthew 18:18 Jesus told us “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
