2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
One day some boys caught two chirping finches. They enthusiastically determined that they needed to teach the two chirping finches to sing. They owned a pet canary that could sing beautifully. It would be the perfect voice teacher for the two new boarders. The finches were placed in a cage with the canary and the experiment began. At first the boys watched the birds carefully checking them every day. As time passed and nothing seemed to change their interest flagged. Several weeks passed and they decided they should spend more time with the birds. To their dismay they found that the experiment had been successful in reverse. The finches had taught the canary how to chirp!
Sadly this is often what takes place when Christians carelessly let their guard down. The teaching of the Word is clear. We are to be in the world but not of the world. We are to be insulated but not isolated. Our mission has not changed. We are to take the gospel to the world. We do so, however, not by becoming like the world but by living a life that is attractive to the world. We can’t win them to Jesus by being like them. We must let them see Christ in us as we share His message of hope.
